Dear Friends - Of all of my posts, this one has (by far) the most impressions (over 5.5 million), the most likes (over 110,00) and the most shares (over 13,000). This one has really struck a chord. I would love your reflections on why! Life is good. Marshall

I wholeheartedly agree.  This holds true not only for our job, but for every single instant of our brief trip through life—which is impermanent in and of itself. Regardless of one's position & monetary prosperity,  one's behavior toward other beings will be remembered. We won't realize how negatively we've affected others until it's too late while trying to win the race by being overly smart. Our wish to apologize will likely stay only a wish when we look back after retirement, in those lonely moments when our body prevents us from being where our mind wants us to go. Death is the one thing that is guaranteed to happen to everyone; Therefore, we should all keep in mind that sooner or later, the big retirement day will arrive.  One's beliefs are based primarily on accumulating material money through any means. This ruthless species may be able to cool down a little and perhaps begin to pay attention to the suffering of other people if they are reminded of death. The advantages of remembering death have been well discussed by both philosophers and faiths. I suppose one might spend some time reading them in order to realize how insignificant our life is in this amazing cosmos. Have a good one, everyone!

We say job titles aren't important, however, can't give them up. Just watch the profiles of any of us on LinkedIn. Why so? We know the SEO criteria uses job title as a key search element, which nobody gives up, let alone keep adding more to it, they see fit & unique to attract more members who coveting it. In order to have an opportunity to treat others, we use our job title to get a heads up, while those without it cannot even get that heads up particularly, at an early stage of their career. If I assess a person getting started he usually treats people extremely well. Is it because of: a - Fear of seniors with more authority who can negatively impact his growth, or? b - He is truly a servant leader, compassionate, and empathetic? c - He is inherently opposite of what is shown in "b?" 👎 A seasoned professional treats people extremely well. Is it because: 1 - It doesn't matter being nice, generous, compassionate, & empathetic & has nothing to lose, or? 2 - There is nothing to gain, has accomplished goals & objectives in career, now beginning to enjoy journey past title, power, authority, $, & status? 3 - He is inherently opposite of what is shown in "2?" 👎 One can never say much on those between the 2 categories.

So true! We all have a personal brand. We shouldn't be thinking, "Oh, I'll turn it off and turn it back on later." There's no switch. Consistency matters. Our personal brand is never one to take lightly whether we're speaking with the cashier at the grocery store, or our manager; there's no difference as people should be treated with respect and the utmost dignity. I seek to leave a lasting impression with every person I encounter, which takes intentionality, but it's so worth it. I'm reminded of the words by John Bunyan, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”
